Waco Raccoon Control Tip: Will a Mother Raccoon Have Her Babies in My Attic?
You may have had an incident where a raccoon had gotten in your attic. Maybe a neighbor had this happen to them. Unfortunately, it is something that occurs a lot more than you may know.

As you think about it, you get concerned that a raccoon may get into your attic one day. This begins to bother you even more during the time of the year when raccoons are likely to have babies. This makes you start to wonder to yourself if a raccoon mother would have her babies in your attic?

It's the Instincts
Before diving too much into the article, we want to unequivocally tell you that absolutely a mother would do this. Think about what a mother is looking for, any mother. We are not just talking about raccoons, but are talking about any mother who was about to have babies.

Her primary concern is the safety of her offspring. She wants to know that they are safe from potential predators. This is definitely something that your attic offers.

In the wild, she would have to worry about foxes, bats, coyotes, even other raccoons eating her babies. There are a number of predators that would find her young to be the perfect meal for them. However, they are not available in your attic. The last you knew, you didn't have coyotes and owls living in your attic, so your mother raccoon feels quite confident that her babies are protected in the safety of your home.

In addition, she knows she can go out to get food and water for herself, come back and they will not be any issues. She can feel confident that there is no reason for her to fear if she needs to take care of her own needs. That is something that is not available to her in the wild.

The Comfort of Your Home
There are many other reasons for her like your attic. It starts with the fact that the insulation is a warm place for her to have her young. If you have clothing, newspaper, and other memorabilia in your attic, then these can be used as well. There is literally a large assortment of materials that can keep her babies warm.

There is also a lot of privacy. It's likely that you spend very little time inside your attic. You may not have even gone there for years. The raccoon has complete privacy with her young, not worrying about anyone bothering or even discovering that they are there.

Check Your Exterior
If this is starting to concern you, then know that the only way she is going to get into your home is if you have not taken the proper precautions to keep her out. This is accomplished by doing an inspection of the exterior part of your home at least twice a year. You should look for loose boards, cracks, and other blemishes that the raccoon can use to get inside. If you don't give her an opportunity to get in, then she won't be having babies inside your attic.
